About

My name is Paris Franz (honestly) and I am a writer, photographer and blogger based in London. My journalism has appeared in magazines such as The Arab, Jane’s Airport Review, Shanghai Business Review and Geographical. I have also had work included in the travel anthology The Virago Book of Wanderlust and Dreams, edited by Lisa St Aubin de Teran. Examples of my journalism can be found on the Articles page.

I love – in no particular order – travel, art, history and music. And study. I’m currently studying part-time for an MA in the History of Art and Archaeology at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London, which is both challenging and a chance to get up close and personal with beautiful things.

In between bouts of administrative wage slavery, I have excavated in Cyprus and Belize, taken a canoe to Angel Falls in Venezuela, and photographed, from a very small boat, humpback whales migrating off the Australian coast. I have been pick-pocketed in Kuala Lumpur and stuck in Burma when the plane I was supposed to get got hijacked to Calcutta. Oh well, it makes for interesting material for stories.

This blog, started as a record of my travels to China, has now morphed into a chronicle of my adventures in the brave new world of self-publishing. Please join me as I get to grips with the mysteries of editing and cover design and ebook formatting.

PS. I should add, regarding my name, the only explanation I can come up with is strange parents.
